President Bush recently asked Congress
to approve a $75 million boost in the Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration
budget. The funding boost is intended primarily to
help the agency get ready for Mexican trucks to operate
throughout
the United States; however, some of the additional
funds would be used to beef up enforcement programs for
federal
and state trucking rules. Under the proposal, the agency
would spend an additional $7 million on trucking inspections
and compliance reviews. The DOT will be doing more inspections
of company records to ensure all trucking companies
are in compliance
with sate and federal regulations as a means to increase
safety
on our national and statewide highways. We receive
numerous calls from members who are seeking assistance
for DOT audits and inspections. Because
of your interest, we developed a program to help
reach your compliance
goals. For a slight fee, we will visit your company
or you can bring your records to state headquarters
and we
will assist you in complying with DOT regulations.
