The American Trucking Associations (ATA) is conducting an important, confidential data collection effort to quantify the entire costs that motor carriers incur in complying with the requirement for vehicle decals imposed under the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). The data ATA is seeking include both the obvious costs of purchasing, processing, and distributing decals from a carrier’s headquarters to its vehicles, but also the costs associated with decal violations and citations, and any vehicle downtime or rerouting costs incurred because of the need to apply IFTA decals.
In making the estimates of your costs, please be as complete as you can. Your estimates should be reasonable, but they need not be conservative.
The importance of your participation in this survey cannot be overestimated. Your timely and accurate response to ATA’s survey will help support the association’s primary contention that the decal requirement is too costly and ought to be eliminated. The results of the aggregated confidential data will be shared with survey respondents in a special report sent to you by ATA’s Safety Management Council.
If you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact Bob Pitcher, ATA Vice President, State Laws, at (703) 838-7939.
The completed surveys should be returned to my attention at the Safety Management Council within the next few days. They can be faxed to (703) 838-1965, or e-mailed to email@example.com.
